Long revered as the patron saint of animals and nature, St. Francis of Assisi is also the patron saint of ecology. Our wish is for people of any faith or tradition to find inspiration and hope in St. Francis’s model of careful stewardship and respect for the natural world. Artisans in a multigenerational Mayan Quiche workshop in Chichicastenango, Guatemala, carve this depiction using only hand tools. The flowers that adorn St. Francis's robe and the songbirds and chickens that have stopped to hear his sermon all speak to his connection with all living creatures.
Please note: This tabletop sculpture is smaller and more finely detailed than our Hand-Carved St. Francis Santos (P11399) from the same Guatemalan workshop. Please accept small variations in the painting and carving of each handcrafted piece. St Francis's hand and the birds on his shoulders are packaged separately for safe shipping and are easy to attach by hand.
